Michael DiMaio

J. Michael DiMaio, M.D.

Founder, CEO

J. Michael DiMaio, MD is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Spectral MD. Dr. DiMaio's distinguished career includes extensive experience as an entrepreneur, clinician, and scientist. He maintains a clinical practice at The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano, where he is Medical Director of Publications and Post-Graduate Medical Education through the Baylor Scott & White Research Institute. Dr. DiMaio was a member of the faculty at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center from 1998-2013, where he was Professor and Director of cardiothoracic surgery research and held a distinguished chair in heart disease. He was also a Fellow with the Reynolds Foundation.

Dr. DiMaio received his B.S. from the University of Florida and M.D. from the University of Miami. He completed residencies in internal medicine, general surgery, and thoracic surgery at Duke University Medical Center. While at Duke, Dr. DiMaio also completed a surgical research fellowship focused on gene therapy, immunology, and transplantation. 

Wensheng Fan

Wensheng Fan

Executive Vice President, CTO

Wensheng Fan is Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Spectral MD. He is an executive, entrepreneur and innovator with over 20 years of experience in natural speech recognition and real time imaging systems. Prior to Spectral MD, Mr. Fan was a Global Vision Application Engineering Manager for Sensata Technologies (former TI S&C Division) with a focus on introducing imaging sensor and vision systems into automotive OEMs for auto safety features. He was also an Engineering Manager at Philips where he helped to introduce natural speech recognition into the telecommunication world. Mr. Fan was a founder and/or early core member of three successful start-up companies.

Mr. Fan received his B.S.E.E. degree from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China and M.S.E.E. degree from Northeastern University. 


Jeffrey Thatcher, Ph.D.

Chief Scientist

Jeffrey Thatcher, PhD serves as the Chief Scientist at Spectral MD. He currently oversees technology and applications research for medical imaging systems. He is a former Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) undergraduate research fellow, has served as PI on three National Science Foundation (NSF) grants, and is currently the PI of an Health and Human Services Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (HHS/BARDA) government contract to develop an imaging device to assist with burn care. In 2015, Dr. Thatcher presented a summary of Spectral MD's preclinical burn wound imaging studies at the American Burn Association meeting, where he won the Burke-Yannas Award for the best biomedical engineering paper presented at the conference.

Dr. Thatcher received a B.S. in molecular biology from Texas Tech University and Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
